The Beamishes of Kilmalooda lived in a great house near Kilmalooda graveyard. They had a black butler (i.e. a negro) and a lot of servants, strangers to the locality. The people of the district kept away from the place, for some windows had been broken in the house, and no one wanted to get into trouble over it.
There was a man who used to draw loads between Cork to Clonakilty. He often got a big box from Beamish's servants to deliver to a big gloomy looking house in the city. The box was always(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile) - Faisnéiseoir
