   There wasn't any linnen industry carried on in Ireland, long ago, and so the women of every house, made their own thread out of flax. In Spring the ground was first ploughed, harrowed, and fined with the mouth of a basket. Then the flax seed which was very like clover seeds was sown. When it grew up, it was like wheat and when it ripened, a pale blew flower came on top of it. When it was very ripe, it was pulled up, roots and all. The roots were like wheat roots. It was made into little bundles, and carried to a lake or bog and put
