  1. The meaning of Lowertown is the townland where the herbs grow. There is very good land in it. There is a river in it called the Lowertown river which flows beyond the school east and flows in Croagh harbour.
    There are a number of protestant families in it. Three Levis's Two Pyburn's, One King, and a Roycroft. A Barrett family and a Driscoll family and two Daly families lives by the sea. There are two other Catholic families in it a Moynihan and a Roycroft family.
