  1. About twenty - seven years ago a man out of this district went abroad to join the army. He was about a year and a half there when he sent a letter home to his father telling him that he was badly in need of a pair of boots and asking him to send him a pair as quickly as possible.
    His father got the letter and as soon as he had it read he went to the nearest shop to buy a pair of boots. As he was coming home with the boots he met a man of whom he asked "what was the quickest way he could send a parcel to his son who lived abroad". By telegraph" the man answered. With that the man went over to the railway and tying the two boots together hung them one each
