The Goods, who were loyal subjects of England accompanied Coughlan to his cabin, and placed Uniacke under arrest They detained him under a strong guard, including Coughlan, in their own house until morning. Then he was taken to Macloneigh and brought before Mr Pane, who was both Protestant Minister and resident Magistrate for the district. On their way their, Coughlan was so grasping as to tell Uniacke to try to escape over the fence in order to make his own claim for payment stronger. The Goods were several paces behind at the time. Uniacke's answer was "You have done enough now."
The first salute that Mr Pane gave Uniacke was "I saw you passing yesterday. I had your description in my possession, But I would not have your blood on me and I knew one of own creed would betray you" He seated him in his parlour and ordered a fine breakfast to be brought part of which consisted of a bird.
