- Randal Óg O'Hurley who lived in the 16th century and was married to Catherine Collins one of the same Collins as John Collins, "The Silver tongue of Munster", dreamt that there was a crock of gold buried beneath a hawthorn bush in the townland of Ballinvard. He dug it up. Later in life he is supposed to have said, "Beneath this tree I wooed and wed my bonny bride Catherine Collins." With the gold he built the castles of Ballinvard, and Béal Átha na Carraige.
