- 1. Local farmers considered it unlucky to plough on St. Bridget's Day.
2. Milking Cows. When a cow had calved, the first drop of milk from her should be thrown behind the fireplace. This ensured rich creamy milk for the year.
3. A basin of milk should be set out on the dairy window on May eve for the fairies. Cows ran "dry" if this custom was ommitted.
4. When butter was made on May eve, a small piece of it should be rubbed to a rafter in the dairy, also to the handle of the butter barrel. Bas luck followed neglect of this practise.
5 One meal of meat on St Stephen's Day prevented sickness during the year.
6. Any person was not allowed into the stall during milking time, if the visitor did not first call out, "Bail ó Dhia ar an obair".
