Every person had to take a stone and put it on the heap as they passed by. Some time ago a baker was going down the road from this school and he got killed. The people used throw a stone on that heap. The heap of stones is still to be seen. This custom is still practiced in this district.
Anne Kilkenny of Lecarrow, Carrowbehy, Castlerea tells us that all the roads in this district were made by the Frenches - the Local Landlords. The rivers, she says, were crossed by fords. Hundreds of years ago there used to be races at Tully Crossroads. These were held from the wooden bridge in Clooncan to Tully - crossroads. There used to be stalls all along the road from Carrowbehy crossroads on by this school to Tully crossroads on the Races Day.
