  1. New Year's Day:
    No water or ashes is thrown out for fear of throwing out good luck from the house.
    Little Christmas:
    This is also called the Twelfth Night. Candles made from rushes - one for each person in the house whether he or she is present or not are lighted. All sit round them in a circle telling stories. The person whose candle dies out first will be the first to die. The cake made from cows' manure and ashes is always kept and is a cure for cows' udders.
    Shrove:
    This is also called match making time. Pan cakes are made on Shrove Tuesday. It is called Pan cake night. Boxty pan cakes are made.
    Good Friday:
    This is a great day for cutting ones hair. Hair cut on this day will grow thick and long. There is no work done on this day till after the Passion
    St. Brigids Day:
    Crosses are made in honour of St. Brigid and hung on the rafters of farm houses.
    St. Patrick's Day:
    Every Irish man and woman
