- There was once a sultry hot summer before the Great Southern and Western railway was made. There was an old blind woman liveing in "T" lane Portlaoighise and she had a cow which a chap used to drive every day to the river to giver her a drink. After a time all the rivers got dry and the poor woman had no water to give to the cow. She sat under a tree where the railway is built now and began to cry and she made a hole in the ground with her stick and spring water came up. So it went by Biddy ach a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
