On St. Stephen's days she was caught in the furze

Up with the kettle and down with the pan
Give us a penny or two pence to bury the wren
We chased her up, we chased her down
We chased her into Rathdowney town
We dipped her tail in a barrel of beer
And we wish you all a Happy New Year.
Money is gathered and the wren boys spend it on food in shops.
On St. Patricks Day some people are very anxious to get a four leaved shamrock as they think it is lucky.
