  1. In the barony of Clarmallagh in the townsland of Rathdowney there is a place called Middlemount.
A long time ago a man dreamt three nights in succession that there was a pot of gold hidden in Middlemount but that blood should be spilt in obtaining it. The man who dreamt about it and other men went to dig for the gold. They took a cock with them and killed it with a knife in order to avoid spilling human blood.
They kept digging till they reached the gold. Suddenly they heard a hurricane coming westward and they all ran away fearing they would be killed.
The place where they dug for gold is to be seen to this day.
