- Blacksmiths
The Mackeys of Dangan were the chief smiths around this country for years back. The trade was in the family for years back.
The implements they used were the Anvil, Sledges, Bellows, Tongs, Betchel Pincers, Hammers, Vice and the traveller. Along with a Bellows for blowing they had an air shore that is they had two openings, one to the north and the other to the south.
When the wind was blowing from the north they opened the north shore. They made ploughs, harrows, picks, sprongs, bill hooks, hatchets, and shovels. The shovels were the best to be seen around the district. There is another smith in Kilmacow whose name is John Magrath who shoes horses, asses and other animals.- Bailitheoir
