  2. Long ago the people used to turn the land with spades. While the men were turning the land the women were very busy slitting. A crowd of the best slitters used to gather at one house and slit there all day. Starch was also made from potatoes. This is the way the people made it. They used to peel the potatoes raw and then squeezed them The water that came from them when squeezed was boiled and when it thickened it was used for starch.
