   Cunnane secured the post of Parish Clerk, and used attend every marriage, baptism and funeral. He also accompanied the clergy on their rounds of stations. He collected a small fee of 6d per household at each station and also expected certain perquisites on the occasion of marriages, baptisms etc. No party nor entertainment, wedding, wake nor American wake could be held without him, and if not well treated, he would compose an Aor on the people of the house.

   It was part of his duty as Parish Clerk to keep the Parish Registers showing records of marriages and baptisms. When Father Tim O'Beirne died, about November 1863, Cunnane took possession of the Registers. He refused to give them up to Father Nattan who succeeded Father O'Beirne unless he were paid the sum of £24 which he claimed as two years salary as Parish Clerk. Father Nattan refused to consider the claim and the records were never restored. It is not known
