  1. There was a battle fought in the townland of Coomyauna on the 27th April 1923 between the Irish Republican Army and the Free State Army. Commandant Griffin was the leader of the Free State Army, and Sir John Gilpin was the leader of the Republicans. The village people were terror stricken and had to keep within shelter of their homes all day. The battle passed off quietly no casualties having taken place. Neither of the parties won the victory.
