  1. In the year 1650 of thereabouts the Cromwellian soldier's received two crushing defeats from the Irish one at Ballinaskelligs, where all the soldiers were killed and buried in the same grave and the spot is called "Tráig na Sasanach". The other battle was fought at Westcove and was known as the "Battle of Bunaneer or Dromcaos where Gibbons and all the Cromwellian soldiers were killed early in the fight by the Irish under O'Sullivan Mór and Captain Brennan.
