- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)day, her well-filled udder promised a heavy pail of milk, but when "Bawny" was driven in to the byre her paps were always found limp and empty. Her owner, a little suspicious of his neighbours, decided to keep his eye on the cow and next day he managed to find work within sight of her as she wandered through the field. No visible being interfered with "Bawny" and James hoped for a good supply of milk this evening. The cow disappointed him however and he could not make out what became of the milk which she appeared to have stored up as he passed her in the grassy field. Next day he kept a sharper look out and what was his astonishment when he noticed "Bawny" standing serenely at the mouth of this underground passage while her days store of milk flowed in even streams, pressed out by unseen hands. After this he made several efforts to keep her from the place but though he drove her to the farthest off fields the bewitched cow always managed to bring their colouring to the "good people" before sunset. The fences of his own farm were no barrier to her and James who had not divulged the story to his neighbours, decided to offer the animal to his neighbour across the road for a reasonable price. He thought no doubt, that two high ditches and a wide public road would break the spell that was on the poor beast, and so Bawney changed hands some days later.
