- The local fairs are held in Monaghan. and Ballybay. The local fairs are always held in towns. The people long ago held fairs at crossroads. Some people who buy cattle come to farmhouses and buy their cattle. They still buy them at farm houses.
There are no fairs held on hills or forts or castles.
The fairs in towns are held in a green. Toll is never paid on cattle sold at fairs. When an animal is sold luck money is given to the man who buys the cattle The man who sells the cattle gives the buyer halfacrown or two shillings and that is called luck money. Animals are marked with heel to show that they are bought. When animals are sold the halters or ropes are given away too. The May, November, and December fairs are the greatest fairs of the year. There are no fairs held for the sheep or horses(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
