- There are three tailors in Freshford, Their names are Mr. Dowling, Mr. White, and Mr. Ryan. These men work in their own homes and the people who want clothes made, bring the cloth to them. The tailor has many implements such as a sewing machine, a wide leaf table, a board for ironing on, an iron, a thimble, needles, thread and buttons. He uses a thimble without any bottom on it.
Thread is not spun in the district but the people buy the thread and the cloth. An old saying about tailors is "The devil ran away with the little tailor, with the lap board under one arm".
Stockings were knitted by a spinning wheel long ago but now they are hand-knitted. There is one spinning wheel in the district. The woman that owns it lives in Balleen and her name is Mrs. Fogarty.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
