There are many old roads in this district also. The "dead man's road" as it is called leads from the Cross of Clone to Clontubrid Chapel. It is so called because long ago a man was killed on that road for his money and was thrown over some bridge. The "Crush Road" leads from the Cross of Clontubrid to Balleen. This is a very old road. The "Rathbeagh Road" is a bye-road leading from the main road to Rathbeagh and Inch. Long ago fairs were held on this road and a fight always took place there. At one time, a girl was struck with a stone and killed and after that, the fairs were held in Kilkenny. All these roads were made as relief works during the famine times. "Ballinamara Road" is also a very ancient road leading from the pillar box to Ballinamara and to Kilkenny.
