    Any animal or person born on Whit Sunday is said to be unlucky. Gooseberry fair is called that because gooseberries are sold at it. The hiring fair is called that name because people are hired at it.

    When May Day comes people put May-fowers (marsh marigolds) around the doors for good luck.
