They brought a small board with them on which they danced on while another of the party played jigs or reels on a melodion and sometimes one of the party sang a song. There was a real welcome for them as their picturesque dresses and the dancing and songs served to brighten the quiet monotony of the day after Xmas when people were accustomed to remain quietly at home.But at present time the practice has much deteriorated as the Wrenboys of the present day seemed little inclined to entertain those whom they visit with dancing or songs but just like donations they receive and just wish the donors a Happy New Year.
