  1. My home district is the townland of Lavally, Ballintogher, and is in the parish of Riverstown. In the townland twenty families and about eighty-nine people. All the house are thatched with the exception of one slated house. The townland got its name because it was a good district for drying clothes in. There are four people over seventy living in Lavally.
Houses in former times were more numerous by two; one of them belonged to Mrs. Wynn and the other to Hugh Sheidan and they are now in ruins. Hugh Sheidan died and his wife sold the land and went herding sheep and cattle and hr son went to America.
Clancy and McMorrow are the family names most common; four of Clancy and three of McMorrow.
There is a fort in the townland on the farm of John Clancy and because of that it is called Clancy's fort. Lights may be seen and music may be heard at this fort.
