- Wakes and Funerals.
In this district when a person dies it is the custom to hold a wake, the night of the day on which they die. The people belonging to the house have tobacco for the men who smoke a pipeful in honor of the corpse, and snuff for the women to have a sniff of in honor of the corpse.
The people who come to visit them, stay there until morning and chat, and at some times recite the Rosary and other prayers for the repose of the corpse.
On the following night they bring the corpse to the nearest chapel and leave it there for the night.
On the following day the funeral is held, some people have mass for the dead person. The people give offerings of money to the priest. The priest recites the prayers at the graveside.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
