- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Rattoo means the northern fort. There is a round tower in Rattoo which is in a good state of preservation. The monks of St Agustine lived in Rattoo till 1603; then the monks on the approach of Sir Charles Wilmot's forces from Listowel. The monastery was burned by the Irish.
About a mile from where the Shannon mouth enters the broad Atlantic this school is situated. Along the cliff there are names of places which are preserved their true Gaelic sound. Here are some of the names of the places along the coast.
Bun an t-Srotha means the bottom of the stream. There is a stream or a rivulet flowing along and it falls down the side of the cliff.
Faill na Taoide - cliff of the tide. The sea strike the side of the cliff with great force
Eas Leathan - wide waterfall(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
