  1. Local Proverbs
    4-4-’38
Long ago there was a very famous writer who wrote under the name of Poor Richard. This man gets credit for having written, nearly all the proverbs that we now know and practise.
“A stitch in time saves nine.” This is a local proverb and it is one of the most practical proverbs we know. We hear it used very often in the home by the mother to the children with regard to their clothing.
“Never put off until tomorrow what you can do to-day.”
“A closed mouth catches no flies.”
“A beggar on horseback rides to the devil.”
    “Honesty is the best policy.”
“What is bred in the bone will come out in the flesh.”
“One bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
“Too many cooks spoil the broth.”
“A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
“Idleness is the key to misery.”
“The more haste the less speed.”
“Once begun is half way done.”
“He who sows in the spring will reap in the harvest.”
“When you are in Rome do as Rome does.”
“What would you expect from the dog but a bite.”
