  1. St. Brigid's Night (Biddy's)
Seventy years ago Biddies, young girls dressed up as sheperdesses, went from house to house and danced and sang as the Wren Boys do in this district still. The former custom has died out.

    St Stepehn's Day
The Wren boys still go around on St. Stephen's Day and Night. They wear cloth masks or old hats with holes cut for the eyes. They decorate with feathers from the Xmas goose or turkey. Until about 20 years ago they always carried a dead wren in a neat box decorated with coloured paper but no wren is now taken. They sing as they did then:-
"The wran, the wran, the King of all Birds,
St. Stephen's Day she was caught in the fir,
Although she is small her family is great
Rise up Landlady and give us a 'trate!'
If the 'trate' is small it won't agree with the boys at all.
