- Candles were made in Ralapane about sixty years ago. They used to make them when the sheep were more plentiful there than they are now because it was of the fat of the sheep they used to make them.
First the fat is melted then it was boiled, they used to put a thin bit of cord through the wax and then leave it to cool, till it would harden. There used to be a special pipe to put the fat in till it would harden.
There are no candles made in Ralapane now or in any other district near. It was mostly all candles that were used longago. The candles that were made londago were much bigger than the ones that are made now.- Bailitheoir
