- Football matches were played in a different way long ago.
Long ago the teams were all in a line in the field. Two parishes or townlands were together side by side. The referee was brought from a different parish and the ball used to be thrown in the middle of the teams and the match began. Now the ball is thrown in by a bishop or clergyman instead of a referee.
The teams had on football jerseys and trousers one team had on one colour such as green and yellow and white and blue.
The teams used to come in cars, lorries or busses. They carried melodians, harmonicas and accordeons so that they could play them if they won.- Bailitheoir
