- Before candles began to be manufactured the people made what they called rush-candles.
They skinned rushes and got resin out of trees.
The melted the resin and mixed grease through it. They made a shape of a candle out of tin and left a hole through the tin. They also had a hole the width of a sprig in the bottom of it to keep the wick in the middle.
Then they put the white stiff that they had left when they had the rush skinned down through the tin and out through the hole on the bottom. Then they filled in the mixture round the white stuff that they called a wick.
When it was set they took it out and it was like a candle.- Bailitheoir
