- Between the Chapel and the Priest's house in Gortletteragh there is a big slated house. It has a stone staircase leading up to the top story. It was at one time the Roman catholic school. A master and mistress used to teach in it. The mistress used to teach on the top story and the master used to teach underneath. Long ago the Priest used to live there but he has another big house now close to it. The above-named house is not used for anything now except for the Priest's boy to sleep in.
Before the Protestant Church was built prayers used to be held in John Grey's house which is in the Lough Rynn demesne. Lord Leitrim was going to build the Clergyman's house, "in the Black park", which is in Farnaught, and which is convenient to the Church. The foundation holes are still to be seen. The people used to have settle beds and press beds in the kitchens to sleep in. They used to make rush candles to show them light. They used to gather big thick rushes and hang them on the hob to dry and then they used to peel them and dip them in resin.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
