   as doors and windows. Others had only wooden shutters which were opened in the day time and closed at night. Old floors were made of either clay, flag-stones or daub. Turf and timber were used as fuel. Colm balls are peculiar to County Leitrim they are made by hand from wet-slag and daub.

   I saw a woman named Mrs Floyd making colm balls out of the dry slack. She dipped a handful of slag into some water, and made it into a round ball. Then she put them on the fire along with turf.
