- (continued from previous page)as doors and windows. Others had only wooden shutters which were opened in the day time and closed at night. Old floors were made of either clay, flag-stones or daub. Turf and timber were used as fuel. Colm balls are peculiar to County Leitrim they are made by hand from wet-slag and daub.
- I saw a woman named Mrs Floyd making colm balls out of the dry slack. She dipped a handful of slag into some water, and made it into a round ball. Then she put them on the fire along with turf.
