  1. The following story was told by Michael O Rourke, Hartley, Ck-on-Shannon.
One day when Mr O Rourke was out in the fields counting his cattle he saw a hare sucking one of the cows. He ran to the house for a gun and when he came back, the hare was still in the same position. He tried to shoot it but failed to do, until at last, he shot her through the leg. As soon as she was hit, she ran into a ruined cottage close by. Mr O Rourke followed her, to find that shere was no one there but an old woman. Tradition holds that this old woman was a witch and had changed herself into a hare.
