- Story. In the time of Sir Fredrick Hamilton there lived an old man named Cormac McGowan in the townland of Townaleck. He was known as Cormac Ravoc. He was a very strong man. A mill stone would be no weight for him to carry. He has his house opposite a little stream or river. In this there was as stone flag resting on other little stones. It was arranged in such a way that anybody when crossing it would make a very big noise. Cormac Ravac was on the run at this time, and the soldiers were all after him. This night he heard a noise on this stone and he counted twelve different steps. Cormac knew that it must be the soldiers coming. In a few minutes he found the latch a lifting of the door. The soldiers were all covered over with snow as it was snowing heavily. Corman ran and got a sheet and dipped it in a pan of cream. He also got a 'scan fada' and got in the midst of the soldiers and killed every one of them. They did not know him from themselves. That is how Townaleck got its name.
