    He was a great gambler and there never was a game of cards for miles around that Billy did not know of, and many a night he played at them till well into the small hours of the morning.
    Returning home from one of those card gamws on a very cold frosty night at about one oclock, as he was going through a gap in a hedge, which lay in his way and talking to himself about how cold it was, he said, "I wish I had a good glass of whiskey it would warm me up".
    With that a little man about two feet high, and dressed in the usual dress of a fairy, stepped out from the other side of the hedge and said, "you will have not that to say again if you do what I tell you" I will do anything you say barring murder" said Billy.
    Well then said the little man, go down to the lake there beyond, and pull three of the bullrushes you get growing near the brink and bring them back to me.
