    Eachdruin
The battle of Eachdruim concerns us only in so far as the people of Cinéal Féichín and Síol Anmachadha participated in it.
The causes which led up to it, or why the remnant of the Irish Catholics who owed their ruin mainly to the falsehood of the stuarts with their leathbhróg Gallda and their leathbhróg Gaedhealach. Suffice it to say that over 1,000 men from our district took part in the battle.
The Clanricarde of the time threw in his lot with Rí Séamus and commanded a regiment of 350 men. His subordinate officers included Eamonn O’ Madden as Lieut Colonel and a large number of Burkes. One of the latter is interesting as availing himself of the battle to take a holiday. He had been pent up in his castle in Clonlee, and so closely watched by bailiffs that he could appear only on Sundays. The battle of Eachdruim was fought on Sunday, the 12 of July 1691. Our friend taking advantage of the day.
