to cross the Atlantic and if the person put his finger into the saucer in which the ring was placed he would be the first to get married. After that they used to get a cord and lie an apple to the end of it. Then a person was blindfolded and they used to try to catch the apple in their mouth without getting help from their hands. After that they used to get two pieces of sticks one of them used to be pointed at each end and an apple stuck in each point. There used to be a candle left on each end of the other stick. Then the two sticks were crossed and hung from the ceiling with a cord. Then each one in turn was blindfolded and used to try to catch the apple in their mouths.
