    The following are some of the schools which existed up 'till almost seventy years ago.

    Often times great poverty existed in those schools. The fire more often consisted in dry cow-dung than turf says.
    Long ago there was no schools like we have now. There was not many hedge schools in the district but the people used learn their lessons in the house of a learned man and he used teach them all he knew. The people that attended those schools had to pay a penny a week to the teacher.
    There was an old school in Tullakill (Loughtea). It was a small thatched house and the teacher kept hens and a pig. The scholars had to bring a grain of oats every day for the hens and a goal of turf to boil for the
