  1. Black Jack.
Black Jack or puck is supposed to be a little black dwarf. He guards the castle and lives in it.
Only the Howth Family ever saw him. If anyone else sees him, they die and never live to tell the tale.
He goes about the castle and the grounds and makes queer noises to frighten people away.
People say the owners made up this story about Puck to frighten them and keep them away from the castle.
    Travelling People.
A few travelling people still come to Howth. It is not a good place for them, because they must go out, the way they came in.
In other places they can come in one road and go out the other.
They are chiefly beggers and tinkers. The beggers only beg and pretend to sell small things as they go from house to house. The tinkers sell or would mend things.
The beggers come alone, but the tinkers travel in groups and generally have asses and carts
