- There are three forges in the parish. One in Blanchardstown, one in Porterstown, and one in Mulhuddart. The smiths are Michael MacLoughlin, Jimmy Murphy, and Michael Sommers. The forges are near crossroads. The forge in each case is a fairly large building, and the roofs of two of them are corrugated iron and of slate. The doors are of the ordinary shape but fairly wide. There is only one fire-place in each of them.
The top and bottom of the bellows consist of wood and are joined together with leather. An iron pipe extends from the bellows to the fire.
There is a handle of wood one end of which is connected with the lower back end of the bellows by means of a chain.
The bellows are not made locally. When the smith is working he uses a hammer, tongs, sledge-hammer, claw hammer, pincers,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
