The famine of 1846-47 affected Castleknock very much.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
the bread. The Government sent over indian corn which was no use, it only merely kept one alive. A great sickness followed the famine called cholera. A person that was effected with that disease turned black and died immediately. Many persons died in the ditches or on the road or any place where they had been working.

  2. In Castleknock cemetery there is a tomb stone in good order erected by the Chapelizod poet Tim Brien. The inscription on which reads
This stone was erected by Tim Brien
Who thought it fine to write this line
In memory of his father John
    Who died in 1761
    His age it been 75
    In peace he lived
    And so he died
He departed life on the 6th May
And for his soul I hope you'll pray.
Here also lies my sister Jane
And all who knew her said the same
She was honest, Humble meek and mild
A loving friend of every child.
