    Puss on the hearth with velvet paws sits wiping ever her whisker jaws
    Loud quacks the duck the peacock cries the distant hills are looking nigh, it a sign of rain
    The walls are damp the ditches smell, closed is the pink eyed pimpernel, this a sign of rain
    If a cow shakes herself it is a sign of rain
    Falling stars at night are a sign of rain
    Streamers from the sun is a sign of rain
    If the clouds are dark or one under the other it is a sign of rain.
    If you see the dust flying off the roads it is a sign of rain
    If you see swarms of midges on a summer's evening it is a sign of rain.
    The west is the wind that brings most rain to my district.
    March dust and April showers bring May flowers
    When the north wind blows we shall have snow
    If sheep are to be seen all standing behind a ditch in the corner of a field it is a sure sign of coming rain or snow.
    When the water-hens build high up in the river banks it is a sure sign of a very bad wet summer.
