Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The food eaten in Ireland long ago was quite different from what it is now, as it was nearly all raised at home, while we get part of it from other countries.
    The chief food was potatoes, oat-bread, porridge and milk. The people had three meals a day, and had to work two or three hours before breakfast, then they got porridge and potatoes.
    Tea was not then used every day. It was thought a great treat to have tea on Sunday.
    The people made oat-cake by placing the oatmeal mixed with hot water, and baked. in different shaped before the fire. They drank milk with it. They also made potato-bread.
    Poundies were frequently made and sometimes mixed with oat-meal. On Halloweve night poundies were eaten, and it was customary to eat eggs on Easter Sunday.
