While the traveller was sleeping, the man and his wife had a conversation about his money The man arose from the fire side where he was sitting. He got a pick axe, and he went into the room and murdered the poor traveller, and took possession of his money. Then he came out and told his wife what he had done, and asked her what will we do with the body. So she said "we will bury him in his own box" When they were putting him in the box they found it was too short. Then they got a hatchet and cut him off at the knees. They put him into the box and rolled him in his own clothes. The man then carried the box across the Swilly burn and buried him in the townland of Braighadoes.
The following night the man and his wife were sitting at the fire when the dog began to howl. They heard a strange noise outside and at last in entered the house. They heard nothing but stump, stump, stump, through the room. Then they heard a voice and it was the voice of the man they had murdered. He told them he would haunt them to the nineteenth generation. so there was no peace in that house that night(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
