- The Local Fairs
1. The local fairs are held at Carrick, Waterford, Dungarvan and an onion fair is held each year at Fiddown.
2. They are generally held in towns but occasionally some of the smaller fairs are held in villages.
3. Buyers transact business at cross-roads and at farmers houses.
4. Fairs that were held formerly and that were dropped have now been discontinued because they were not at convenient places for buyers to visit.
5. There are not any local traditions of fairs held on hills in the neighbourhood or cemeteries ,forts or castles.
6. The town fair is generally held in a special fair place.
7. There is not toll paid on cattle in our district.
8. Luck money is given when an animal is sold. Luck money is called “luck”, On a £10 beast 2/6 luck is given.
9. When a bargain has been made the parties concerned show their agreement by striking hands.
10. When sold, animals are marked with coloured raddle.
