IntroductionThe incidents of this drama took place in real life in the reign of King James common by known. It took place in the town of Athlone which was then seriously threatened by an invading British Army, who lay encamped on the opposite side of the river Shannon which they subsequently crossed and took the garrison of Athlone by storm.General St Ruth stubbornly refusing to send the garrison any assistance from his camp which lay some distance outside the town.
The chief actors in the drama are: General St Ruth, Oarsfield in the Irish camp.
