- Three meals a day the people of the olden times had. They consisted of meal, milk and potatoes. Sometimes they baked griddle-bread. They worked for two hours before their breakfast. Their meals were scanty but very wholesome.
There were hinges on the table to raise it up against the wall. They rarely touched meat. At Christmas and Easter it was a luxury. They caught fish and ate them. They roasted them on the griddle.
They drank sour milk and buttermilk. The cups weren't in use until the tea. But there were little wooden mugs. 'Feigíní' they called them. There was a Famine in Ireland in the years 1847 and 1848.
