- On Candlemas day it was the custom to throw a candle away. Some people did not do this but made new candles instead. This was done by melting sheep fat and drawing the wick through it a few times until enough clung to the wick. All the candles were made similarly.
On St. Brigid's eye it was, and is yet, the custom to hang some article of clothing on the window sill to receive the Saint's blessing. This was supposed to bring good luck on the house-hold for the coming year.
It is also the custom to make butter on May eye and use some of it all the year round. This is also supposed to bring good luck on the household for that year.- Bailitheoir
